Akhona Mkhize, aged 23, was kidnapped by unidentified suspects in Matabetulu in Inanda on 19 July 2022. A case of kidnapping was reported to the Inanda South African Police Service (SAPS). This was after she visited her boyfriend. Akhona was taken by unidentified suspects while her boyfriend was not around.

The ex-girlfriend of Akhona’s boyfriend was seen leaving the premises with the suspicious vehicle, according to information that was received.

The kidnapped victim and the suspects were tracked down On the 20th of July 2022, all thanks to the help of police officers from the Stabilization Operation Team stationed in the region.

The operation was successful when a 34-year-old woman was arrested, who later revealed that she had planned the kidnapping with the help of another man. The team’s investigation brought them to Buffelsdraai in Verulam, where they sadly discovered Akhona’s body with strangulation signs.

mmission of an crime was seized for additional investigation. A 24-year-old male was tracked down and found in Ixopo’s Echibini, where he was detained. On the 22nd of July 2022, both suspects appeared before the Ntuzuma Magistrates Court. They were detained until a formal bail request could be made.
