Oh! DJ Fresh Heartbroken Following The Passing Of A Famous Rapper

The year 2020 started off on a sombre note within the local entertainment industry as we were left shocked by the number of untimely deaths that occurred at the beginning of the year.

A dark cloud hovered over the entertainment industry as the deaths of many celebs including Zibo Bantsi came to our attention. Another celeb who has left the world reeling is Cal Vin.

The Zimbabwean rapper died after in a hit-and-run accident. Cal Vin hails from Bulawayo suburb of Luveve and his music career spanned several years. The rapper was born on the 15th of December 1985 Cal and he took a liking to the rap career in 1996 and he was inspired by the likes of Jay Z, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Tupac, and Michael Jackson.

In a post shared by SA rapper Cassper Nyovest he paid tribute to him on Twitter, DJ Fresh replied with a broken heart emoji and said may his soul rest in peace.


The radio DJ described this year as the year that keeps on taking. This also follows after his friend Oskido, recently announced the passing of his father Esaph Mdlongwa. Taking to social media, the DJ shared a series of images with his father and paid tribute to him. Oskido said his father succumbed to the novel coronavirus.

“It’s with great sadness to let you know that I have lost my old man due to COVID19, a great man who inspired me to understand the value of life. So long Mdala, rest well. I will see you again in the next lifetime. You’ve shown us a way & shone the light Akwehlanga lungehlang, His post was filled with messages of condolences to him and his family following their loss,” he tweeted

The award-winning Zimbabwean rapper worked with Cassper before 2015 on a song together. The two did a remix of Cal Vin’s song Zikhipan and it was a hit.

The collaboration redeemed his career to higher heights which saw him scooping the Song Of The Year at the Zimbabwe Hip Hop Awards in 2015. He then became a household name both in his country and the whole of Southern Africa.

In support of the life he lived as well as the 35-year-old’s family, supporters have called on people to stream Cal Vin’s music. This would be the very least that can be done to give back to his family.
